AMRC day in Westminster

AMRC day in Westminster

Posted on: 12-12-2018

The Association of Medical Research Charity’s (AMRC) day in Westminster took place on 27 November 2018 in the House of Commons. CEOs of AMRC member charities met with key policy-makers and parliamentarians, including ministers and senior civil servants, to discuss the sector’s priorities. It provided an opportunity for medical research charities to speak with a unified voice and share the vital role and collective contribution of the medical research charity sector to key parliamentarians and policy-makers.

During this exclusive all-day event, our CEO had the opportunity to take part in a number of small-group meetings; where he highlighted the importance of having registries like the NJR, and the benefits they bring to patients and clinicians.

Orthopaedic Research UK was one of the sponsors of the lunch reception, where we conducted an interactive experiment with attendees. In collaboration with Professor Richie Gill from the University of Bath, who is also the current President of the British Orthopaedic Research Society (BORS), we set up a force plate at our exhibition stand to measure ground reaction forces generated by participants walking across the plate in order to quantify their gait and other biomechanical parameters. Our stand was overwhelmingly busy with participants interested in learning about their biomechanics and prospects of their bone and joint health. We would like to sincerely thank Professor Gill for his support and collaborating with ORUK.
