John Edge MBChB, FRCS is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who qualified in 1968 from University of St Andrews and has worked in the NHS for 45 years. His interest in hip surgery started in 1969, when he implanted his first Charnley hip replacement and was able to see the miraculous treatment for the patient with hip arthritis. He operated with Ronald Furlong in 1989 and implanted his first Furlong cementless hip replacement. He has published extensively demonstrating the significant technological advance of the Furlong hip.
He was Regional Orthopaedic Adviser for the Royal College of Surgeons and served on their Specialist Advisory Committee. He became a trustee for the charity in 2010.
His interests are his family and as always his farmhouse is full of various animals.
He was a regular and keen marathon runner but now enjoys sailing and cycling.
