John joined ORUK in July of 2018 to lead our drive in developing voluntary income. Prior to this, John worked for 4 well-known health and medical charities where he focused on philanthropy but also gained considerable experience in other income streams. John has developed and managed fundraising projects for specific medical research programmes as well as services for people affected by single and multiple health issues. Before moving to the charity sector, John spent 20 years leading a retail business, fuelling his belief that a charity must meet the needs of its supporters and beneficiaries in developing robust and value-driven projects. He is driven by the belief that the generosity of all donors and supporters brings about change but these amazing supporters bring change too as social investors, helping shape and inform projects. With a passion for customer service and a strong belief in the Third Sector as a change maker, John will be instrumental in leading ORUK to develop voluntary income to drive orthopaedic research.
In his spare time, John is a keen reader, cook and takes part in a number of fitness programmes. He is also Trustee of a disability trust and has a close family connection to long-term disability resulting from trauma.
