Aimed at trainees who are in their earlier years of training and those preparing for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination. This course is also suitable for consultant orthopaedic surgeons in practice who wish to refresh their knowledge in orthopaedic basic sciences.

Designed to provide delegates with a comprehensive update on all topics that are assessed in the examination and are clinically relevant. It includes interactive lectures as well as mock vivas, thus providing delegates ample time to gain knowledge and also refine their examination technique.

Whilst much of the general orthopaedic curriculum is often learnt from clinical exposure, knowledge of the basic sciences frequently requires more specific attention. Mr Vikas Khanduja, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Addenbrooke’s Hospital

Vikas Khanduja is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in both the arthroplasty and sports surgery aspects of Hip and Knee surgery and has a particular interest in Arthroscopic surgery of the Hip and the Knee. He holds a full time Consultant position in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery based at Addenbrooke’s ‐ Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

He qualified as a Doctor in 1997. He then obtained his Basic Surgical Training in London. Following this he received his Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the North Thames circuit in London, gaining the FRCS (Orth) in 2005. Subsequently, he undertook his sub‐specialty training fellowships in Knee and Hip surgery with eminent surgeons in the field in London, Cambridge, Zurich and HSS, New York.

Complementing his clinical practice, Mr. Khanduja’s research is focused on the management and outcomes of Femoroacetabular Impingement which is a pre-arthritic condition of the hip joint. In particular, his interest is on optimisation of arthroscopic management of FAI and precision surgery via navigation and robotics to improve outcomes. Vikas has been instrumental in setting up the tertiary referral service for Young Adult Hip Surgery in Cambridge and is the Lead of the Elective Clinical Trials for Orthopaedics. He has over 90 peer reviewed articles and 2 books to his name.

Mr Khanduja is the recipient of the prestigious American and British Hip Society Fellowship in 2011, the Arnott Medal presented by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2013 and the Insall Fellowship presented by the American Knee Society and Insall Foundation in 2014.

He convenes the Orthopaedic Basic Science Course, Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Arthroplasty and Knee Sports Injury and Knee Arthroplasty cadaver courses in Cambridge annually. He is also the SICOT Programme Chair & Education Academy Lead and has recently been appointed the Chair for the Non Arthroplasty Hip Register.

He is the Associate Editor to the Bone and Joint Journal formerly the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (Br) and the Open Access Journal of Sports Surgery and reviews for many scientific Orthopaedic journals.
