Course convenor: Mr John Hambidge, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Queen’s Hospital, Romford

Whilst child and adult safeguarding is a part of mandatory training, medical and nursing staff still find the practical issues of handling these cases uncomfortable. Both scenarios of missing an inflicted injury or falsely accusing a carer of inflicting injury cause concern, which may lead to under reporting. The consequences of a missed opportunity to identify a patient at risk of further injury are huge. The long term effects of a false accusation are also difficult. Our duty is to the patient in front of us. The intention of this course is to work through actual case scenarios of adult and child safeguarding issues and to reflect as to what the best hands on management would be.
