bringing movement to life

Funding research lies at the heart of all we do.

We exist to advance understanding of orthopaedic science. We do this by funding important research, publishing that research and collaborating with centres of orthopaedic excellence.

Our reach is wide. Some of our funded research broadens general scientific knowledge. Other projects target specific disorders. Where appropriate, we support work into controversial areas.

As a proud member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), we follow their peer review guidelines for reviewing research proposals submitted to us.

We fund research at different levels, whether PhD, MD, Post Doctoral or clinical fellowship. Over the years we have built firm links with the academic institutions which drive new thinking in our field. Since 2004 we have supported 108 research projects, which amounts to more than £7.4million.

Funding decisions are made by our trustees on the recommendation of our scientific advisory committee (SAC), comprising foremost professors, scientists and orthopaedic surgeons.
